Senator Behn Seeks Re-election

DES MOINES – Today, Senator Jerry Behn (R-Boone) announced that he will seek a fourth term in the Iowa Senate.

Behn will continue working to maintain Iowa’s strong schools.  “Traditionally, Iowa has had a solid reputation for quality education,” he said.  “I want to ensure we keep it that way by implementing measures that improve student achievement.  Today, graduates are competing in a global marketplace and I want to ensure Iowa’s students have the skills they need to meet the continuing demands of today’s labor market.”

Behn said that growing Iowa’s economy has been an important part of his work in the Senate and he will continue to focus on initiatives that help create jobs and attract more businesses to the state.  “We need to encourage economic growth by creating a competitive income and sales tax structure, building on our efforts to make Iowa a leader in alternative energy, retaining Iowa’s Right to Work status and reforming Iowa’s outdated property tax system,” he said.

As part of an effort to improve economic opportunities for Iowans, Behn wants to increase access to affordable healthcare.  “I support proposals to offer tax credits to small employers as an incentive for them to provide healthcare coverage for their workers, and I want to increase the Medicaid reimbursement rate to help keep good doctors in Iowa.”

Senator Behn is ranking member of the Senate Commerce and Ethics Committees.  He also serves on the Appropriations, Judiciary, Natural Resources and Environment, Labor and Business, and State Government Committees.

“It has been an extreme honor and privilege to serve in the Senate for the past twelve years and I want to continue working on those issues that are important to my constituents,” said Behn.

Senator Behn represents District 24, which includes Boone and Dallas counties.
