Senate Approves Angelo Bill to Help Bring Ethanol Plant to Adams County

Des Moines – The Senate today unanimously approved a bill sponsored by Sen. Jeff Angelo (R- Creston) to help Adams County officials attract an ethanol plant to the area.

“The bill is good news for Southwest Iowa,” said Angelo.

The legislation specifies that businesses located partially in enterprise zones would qualify for the tax incentives available for that zone.  The measure is a change from current regulations that require a business’ entire physical location must be included in the zone in order to qualify for benefits.

Angelo said a change is needed so that the proposed “Pinnacle Ethanol” plant in Adams County could qualify for state tax incentives.  The proposed plant would be located in an enterprise zone area; however, part of the plant would be constructed outside of the designated enterprise zone acres.

The Pinnacle Ethanol plant is estimated to create 40 new jobs and an almost $1.9 million payroll in the county.

“The change in law provides county leaders with one more tool to use in attracting Pinnacle Ethanol to the area,” said Angelo.  “The new jobs and revenue generated by the plant would help provide an economic boost to our area of the state.”

The legislation now goes to the House for consideration.
