Senate Republican Leaders’ Statement

Regarding Special Legislative Session

DES MOINES – Senate Republican Leaders Mary Lundby (R-Marion) and Jeff Lamberti (R-Ankeny) today made the following statements regarding the Legislature’s decision to hold a special legislative session on Friday, July 14 to address the governor’s veto of eminent domain legislation, HF 2351.

“Senate Republicans remain committed to overriding the governor’s veto,” said Lundby.  “HF 2351 is a good bill that was crafted after months of careful negotiations and received overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers.  We are not interested in the agenda to fix this bill because we don’t believe the bill needs to be fixed.”

“We are committed to protecting Iowa’s property owners,” said Lamberti.  “Republicans have no interest in weakening eminent domain legislation.  The private property rights of Iowans should not be compromised.”
