Sen. Houser Receives Award from the Iowa Environmental Council

Des Moines – Senator Hubert Houser (R- Carson) has received an environmental award from the Iowa Environmental Council .

The Iowa Environmental Council gave Senator Houser this award for his efforts in passage of the Iowa Small-producer Renewable Energy Bill in 2005.  The Iowa Small-producer Renewable Energy Bill offers a 1.5 cent/kilowatt hour tax incentive to small wind producers, such as farmers or schools, and to producers of other forms of renewable energy, such as bio-mass conversion, or bio-gas production.

Senator Houser said, “I was proud to help pass the Iowa Small-producer Renewable Energy Bill last legislative session.  I want Iowans to recognize the value of our state and to be rewarded for working to maintain the resources that we have.”

Since its passage, all funding allotted in the Iowa Small-producer Renewable Energy Bill has been used by schools, farmers, and others.  This year, the Senate Natural Resource and Environment committee, chaired by Senator Houser, will be taking up legislation to expand available tax credits for community wind projects in 2006.

Each year the Iowa Environmental Council works with legislators to ensure that Iowa is a place where the waters run clean, the soil stays on the land, the air is cleaner, and the people are proud to call it home.
