Senator Johnson Meets with Western Christian H.S. Student

DES MOINES – Western Christian High School junior Rita Bootsma of Melvin recently met with area legislators at the state Capitol.

She met with state Sen. David Johnson of Ocheyedan and Rep. Royd Chambers of Sheldon.  They answered her questions about the Legislature and heard her comments on several issues.

Bootsma was in Des Moines to participate in the Capitol Project.  The Capitol Project is a nonpartisan program for high school students to learn about state government.  Participants spend four days in Des Moines to learn about the legislative process and government agencies; meet with legislators, statewide elected officials and staff from government agencies; and work through a mock legislative process.

In addition, students meet with the Governor, First Lady and Secretary of State.  They also tour the Capitol and Terrace Hill.
