(R-Sioux Center) was pleased to introduce Northwestern College Professor Jeff
Barker -- recently named Iowa’s Professor of the Year by the
Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching -- his wife and colleague
Karen Bohm Barker, Northwestern College President Dr. Bruce Murphy and
his wife Dr. Diane Murphy to Governor Chet Culver. Professor Barker and his wife along with
president and Mrs. Murphy were at the Capitol to witness SR
4
passed in Professor Barker’s honor. The
resolution praised Dr. Barker for his tireless commitment to academics and
community at Northwestern College in Orange
City, Iowa.
“It’s very exciting for Northwestern College
to once again find a professor of the year among its members,” commented
Senator Mulder. “I know that the
community is extraordinarily proud of the college and the fine professors that
come to live and work in Sioux
County. The college adds so much to our quality of
life.”
In addition to being on the floor of the Iowa
Senate during the passage of SR 4, Professor Barker, his wife
Karen, President Murphy, and Mrs. Murphy also spent a few minutes with Governor
Chet Culver in his private office.
