Senator Wieck Responds to December REC Meeting

DES MOINES - Today Senate Minority Leader Ron Wieck (R-Sioux City) issued the following statement after the meeting of the Revenue Estimating Conference.

"At this time of year, both Santa Claus and fiscally responsible Democrats are mythical creatures. While the state's treasury continues to grow, all Democrat leaders in Des Moines can talk about are tax and spending increases. This is a lump of coal in the stocking of every Iowa taxpayer," said Wieck.

“In the words of Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal (D-Council Bluffs) “We probably spent a little too much this session …. We can’t afford this level of increase on an ongoing basis.” Well Senator we finally agree on something, Democrats spent too much last year and Iowa’s families should not expect any Christmas miracle this year,” stated Wieck.
