Senate Republicans Offer Olive Branch
DES MOINES – This morning, after caucusing for over 20 hours, Senate Minority Leader Ron Wieck (R-Sioux City) extended an offer on HF 2645 to Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal (D-Council Bluffs).
“We will allow the bill to be read in, have a subcommittee and full committee hearing in an effort to move it to the Senate floor. This would then make the bill funnel proof and eligible for debate for the rest of the session,” said Senator Wieck. “Senate Republicans are ready to debate this on Monday of next week. This was our first offer to the Majority and it will be our last.”
Senate Republicans were ready and willing to work all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if needed, to complete any other action the Majority party wanted to bring forward. Senate Republicans, however, refuse to allow a radical expansion of union power, at the expense of the taxpayer, move forward without more public comment.
